Suburban protesters converge on NATO summit

Teachers gather in Naperville to protest proposed pension cuts

Between 150 and 175 teachers and other labor supporters gathered Thursday afternoon in Naperville to protest Gov. Pat Quinn's pension reform proposal. "The reason we came here today is because for the last 40-some years, Springfield has failed to fund teachers' pensions and now, they're proposing more cuts," said John Laesch, spokesman for Northern Illinois Jobs with Justice.

Full I-90 interchange coming to Elmhurst Road

The long-awaited full interchange at Elmhurst Road and I-90 will be built within four years, which will greatly ease truck traffic trying to go west on I-90 or come to Elk Grove Village and Mount Prospect from the west. "For 40 years the full interchange has been drastically needed," Elk Grove Village Mayor Craig Johnson said. "We're very excited."

DuPage sheriff must borrow radios for NATO summit

Despite having more than a year to plan for the NATO summit, the DuPage County sheriff's office must borrow interoperable radios to be able to communicate with other police, fire and emergency departments throughout the county during this weekend's gathering in downtown Chicago. "The sheriff has had his (agreement) for 16 months and just signed it two weeks ago," Pat O'Shea said.
